So, would this increase the popularity of tor?

  • sebazzz 4 months ago

Tor is seen as the web of criminals, so I suppose that is why there are no torrent sites there.

Um, Rep. Lofgren? Regardless of the merits of this bill, I really feel like there are more urgent matters right now.

I know 435 Congresspeople can do more than one thing, but there are a few top priorities that I don't feel are being adequately addressed.

The only thing urgent to the people in Congress is how to figure out ways to make their lobbies more money. It was never about what you (the public) wanted even though it’s sometimes labeled as such. There are a few who do work as true public servants, but the majority are not. They keep getting elected solely because the other option is whatever is going on now.

This is the same rep that introduced "Aaron's Law" to grandstand in the moment, while the contents of it would have done zilch to actually help (another) Aaron. It seems like this must be an attempt to get their employers' specific digital authoritarian wishes implemented in cooperation with the other team's sweeping authoritarian push.

There have been over 1,600 bills introduced in the House this session.

So, uh, what happened to “America, land of the free”?

We’re censoring the internet now? And the supposed lovers of freedom and free markets (republicans) are ok with censorship?

  • Wobbles42 4 months ago

If the whole "land of the free" thing was true there would be no need to expend the resources to make the slogan universally known. "People's Democratic Republics" and all that.

  • dumbledoren 4 months ago

It was the land of the free as long as the corporate-owned media could control opinion and the plebs did not have a way of widely publicizing their opinions and sharing info.

Now that the plebs have it, its obviously a threat and must be eliminated.

So it came to what Frank Zappa said way back:

"At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater."
