Suddenly, GeForce NOW:

> GeForce NOW is transitioning to a new payment provider.

> Starting January 31, 2025, billing will be waived while we transition payment services. Don’t worry, your account remains in good standing and will not be downgraded during this time.

> That’s right, GeForce NOW will be free for existing paid users during this transition time. Upgrades either to higher or longer memberships will be paused during this time.

> We expect the transition will take a minimum of five weeks.

Jesus, 5 weeks? It must be really hardcoded into their system with 0 expectation of change

Due to the nature of payment providers, I'd have expected this to be abstracted away, because it would be a bad negotiation away of a swap being considered

Flickr had been transitioning recurring subscription users from Digital River to Stripe for a while, but abruptly ended remaining Digital River subscriptions around November last year. It seems to me like this could likely have been why. There wasn't much transparency around why the abrupt change, but a few months of missing payments might provoke that...

Users that used PayPal through Digital River were pretty unhappy about not having the option to continue using PayPal for Flickr.

I'd forgotten that Digital River existed. Hadn't bought anything from a vendor who used them since the late 90s/early 2000s.

    I think Parallels used them.

So, uh. I wonder if any of the vendors are going to see any of their pending payments, or if they're just up shit creek.

(For that matter: how many vendors will end up insolvent as a result of this?)
